Traveling to Costa Rica: Packing for a Baby
If you’re planning a trip to Costa Rica and bringing a baby along, here is a packing list to help you get organized and make sure you are prepared! I listed the more destination-specific items and left out the “duh” essentials like diapers and formula/food.

Baby carrier - You’ll appreciate packing a comfortable carrier that allows you to be hands free and access places that a stroller can’t.
Sun protection - There is sunscreen specifically formulated for babies, body and face, that the AAP recommends you can use once baby is 6 months of age. If they’re younger than 6 months, your sun protection should be shade (i.e. an umbrella or tent)
UV swimwear - There are many baby bathing suits that cover a majority of their arms and legs, which allow you to use less sunscreen!
Swim Diapers - These are more comfortable when wet and will be less heavy.
Hat - If your baby can manage keeping a hat on, try one with a chin strap. They also make baby hats with neck covering.
Sand blanket or towel - A large blanket or towel that you can lay in the sand will give baby room to roll or crawl while staying comfortable.
Portable highchair - There are many packable designs for a highchair that you can use in your hotel or on the go.
Wet/Dry bag - These zippered bags are great for containing wet clothing!
Warm weather clothing - Tank tops, shorts, lightweight materials… Check the weather so you know how warm it will be!
First aid kit - Keep some essential items on hand including: Tylenol, thermometer, bandages/gauze/tape, Pedialyte, formula samples, nail care and a nasal aspirator.
Rain gear - Sometimes the forecast isn’t always accurate, but you can be prepared by packing a raincoat/hat, or a rain-proof car seat cover just in case!
