Tip #1 for traveling in Africa: Pack light! This airplane had some weight restrictions that meant we could only travel with a carry-on bag. Once you add the weight of passengers and cargo, we about maxed it out!
That deep and mysterious glow resembles a sunset, but actually, it is the sunrise over the Serengeti. We awoke at 4am to set adrift in a hot air balloon that took us for a sky-safari. We were lucky enough to see lions, wildabeast and zebra.
The spa at our hotel really lived up to its 5 stars. With rituals and meditation practices that left us at ease like morning yoga and tranquil massages with a stellar view.
Binoculars and a camera - the two must-have items of a safari trip.
The first thing our guide told us before setting out on safari: "We are not guaranteed to see all of the animals." But sure enough, we did. Over 5 days of safari through the Serengeti, we were graced by the presence of many lions and their cubs, zebra, wildebeast, cape buffalo, leopard, rhino, elephant, dik-dik, hyrax, giraffe, hippo, hyena, and even a cheetah. Truly one of the most incredible and intimate nature experiences I've had to date.
