Playa Potrero - Guanacaste - Costa Rica

Costa Rica has been put on the map in the last couple of years it seems - nearly every other person sharing their travel photos on Facebook seem to have been in either Mexico or Costa Rica.

Here is a little glimpse into our fabulous trip that was a bit non-traditional and off the beaten path. We hope you enjoy!

Playa Potrero, Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Playa Potrero is a great beach for a first-stop when you arrive: there are quiet neighboring beaches that make for a pleasant walk; restaurants and bars with typical plates and live music; plus tons of activities if you are looking for an active vacation: yoga, fishing, diving, paddle board rentals, kayak rentals, etc.

Fly into Liberia - Drive to Playa Potrero

The Liberia airport is nearly 1/10th of the size of San Jose… So flying in can be a lot more pleasant and a bit safer. Shorter lines and less traffic mean you’re on your way to adventures in a shorter amount of time.

The Province of Guanacaste is known to be drought-stricken and dry. (Dry season is considered to be December to April, and we visited in March.) During the drive to the beach, you’ll notice the very dry landscape and maybe even see some fires in the distance. Closer to the water, there are numerous trees, flowers and cacti sprawled across the land.

Looking on AirBnB or VRBO, you can find many unique villas and places to stay. This little blue gate door above led to the yard of our home for two nights. Casa Marlin it was called, and it truly was lovely - we would stay here again. Click Here to Book Casa Marlin

Breakfast at Nita Coffee… Highly recommend! They have fabulous fresh juices, aromatic espresso and coffee drinks, and on Saturdays they even had some local craft vendors selling soaps, body lotions and jewelry!

Pura Vida: Pure Life

They truly live up to the saying they’re known for in Costa Rica. From North to South, the culture is rich with love and appreciation for life.

Thank you for reading!

We really enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica, and especially those first two days/nights in Potrero. The people of the town were friendly, and the restaurants were plenty. We hope you check it out for yourself and find the relaxation you seek.

Sincerely, Jaz & Tom
